More Tax Revenues and Less Crime or the Way to Solve the Mexican Drug War and reduce the American National Debt

This is to simple and I know others have thought of this, but I am going to put it out there and get booed and hissed at by some and others will love the idea. Let's face a few simple facts first.
1) The American national debt is freaking out of control and no one is willing or able to stop it.
2) Illegal drugs will not go away, no matter how much is spent on enforcement or education people are still going to use, buy and sell drugs. During the 1930 when the United States completely prohibited the manufacture or sale of alcoholic beverages, there was a huge illegal business in that exact thing.
3) The government (state and national) want more tax money and the people in control are willing to take that money from you.
4) The problems in Mexico are being blamed on the USA, because we are the biggest user of the drugs they supply, no we do not supply the guns to the cartels, no matter what the ATF or any government idiot tells you.
The USA should legalize all drugs, from marijuana to the  hardest opium based drug, I am talking about all of the drugs. The next step would be to tax the usage of these drugs, much like liquor and cigarette taxes. I can promise you this businesses would start making these high quality clean drugs, regulate how they are sold like smokes, liquor and other controlled items and let the users purchase and use them. It goes with out saying that  working and driving and things that are prohibited while under the influence of any intoxicant would remain so.
Once manufactures started producing cost effective and safe drugs the illegal trade would decrease greatly and the tax base would increase greatly. Those folks who are employed trying stop the drugs could simply start managing the manufacture, sale and regulation of the new legal drugs. I know that there will always be someone who wants to sell, manufacture and distributed drugs illegally and therefore we will need some enforcement people for combating  that group.
I know this is a wild idea, but I think it would work, we will never win the war on drugs until we cut of the money supply and the way to do that is redirect it.
